The 65th winner of the 2000 Guineas, held on Wednesday 30th April 1873 over the Rowley Mile, was Gang Forward (8/1), a brown colt by Stockwell out of Lady Mary, owned by Mr William Stirling Crawfurd. The winner won by a short head in 1 minute 46.5 secs, with 3 lengths back to the third. A field of 10 runners contested the race which was worth £3,650 (Equivalent to £379,600 in 2017)
